BurkleHagen

Commercial food photographers publish a guide to eating in their beloved city.

As their business began to boom, Andrew and David noticed themselves repeatedly hosting out-of-town clients for weeks at a time. The considerate hosts opted to develop a detailed guide for visitors to help them experience the city’s food like a local.

We began by brainstorming with the duo the best way to share their favorite places to eat and drink. We opted for a perfect bound book highlighting local establishments. We mixed in “only a local would know” tips, a 2-day feast itinerary and tucked in a list of Andrew and David’s must-try dive eats and drinks. Cleveland-based food critic/writer, Doug Trattner provided the narrative.

Keeping in the spirit of BurkleHagen’s brand, the look is minimal and vibrant. We expanded their core identity to include 2 additional typefaces for the long format design. We created a variety of page styles to make the read more interesting and offer image format flexibility. We developed a key to make searching restaurant “must-haves” like boozy cocktails easy.
